Oh, you know...I'm just over here trying to hold on to the last few days of summer weather! This afternoon I grabbed my camera and this Juice Pops quilt (and my favorite quilt holder / husband) and we headed to a nearby park to take some photos of this quilt.
This is the Juice Pops quilt pattern, made using a pack of 10" squares from the Tula Pink True Colors fabrics.
Tula Pink True Colors Fabric
These prints and colors were just delightful to sew with, and I had fun mixing and matching the prints together for each little popsicle block.
For the popsicle handles I used the True Colors Carbon Tiny Dots print. It's a dark gray background with some tiny little micro sized white dots. It works well with all of the True Colors prints and provides a bit of contrast in the finished quilt.
The background fabric is a white-on-white print called "Ghost Droplettes". You can't tell in the photos but it has tiny white raindrops across a white background. It's subtle, yet adds a little dimension to the quilt when you see it in person. Admittedly, I enjoyed using something different than my usual solid white for the background.
Juice Pops is Precut Friendly
One of the things I love about the Juice Pops pattern is how precut friendly it is. You can use:
- 5" squares
- 10" squares
- fat eighths
- fat quarters
- or yardage
And at some point I really want to make a scrappy version too - maybe in all pinks?
For this quilt I used one pack of precut 10" squares to make the twin size Juice Pops. This is such a fun group of prints! And as I made the blocks I kept imagining what flavor each one would be...raspberry, lemon, blueberry, lime (a personal favorite), orange, passionfruit, watermelon, strawberry....
Juice Pops Quilt Sizes
The Juice Pops pattern includes five size options:
- Crib - 39.5" x 48"
- Lap - 56.5" x 65"
- Throw - 65" x 73.5"
- Twin - 73.5" x 90.5"
- Queen - 90.5" x 107.5"
This version of Juice Pops is the twin size. It was the perfect way to use the pack of precut 10" squares.
The twin size uses 30 precut squares, which gives you the flexibility to pull out any squares that lack enough contrast to the background fabric.
In this instance I removed the "low volume" squares and tossed them in my low vol scrap bin to use on a later project. That left me with enough colorful squares to use for these popsicle quilt blocks.
Longarm Quilting on the Juice Pops Quilt
I quilted this Juice Pops quilt on my Handi Quilter Fusion and I used one of my favorite edge to edge designs - Soho. I do worry sometimes that I've overused this particular design, but it works SO well with pretty much every quilt!
The backing fabric is a Tula Pink wideback called "Full Moon Forest II Honey Free Fall" - you can see it peeking out in the photo above (see it here at Fat Quarter Shop). It's a super soft sateen fabric that makes a wonderful quilt backing!
The binding fabric is a Tula Pink Stripe that just adds the right amount of whimsy to this fun quilt. I realize now that I should have done the stripe binding on the bias to give the binding some movement! I don't mind it as it is, but a bias binding would definitely have added to the charm of the whole quilt.
