Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book

Hey there - I have a finished quilt, a new book, AND a giveaway to share with you all today!

My friend Melissa Corry has written a new book called Fast & Fun Lap Quilts and I'm delighted to be a part of the book tour.

Confession time: I own all of Melissa's previous books (I'm a big fan) and I really like her style. She's a talented designer who has a knack for designing quilts that look complicated but really aren't.

Tessa Quilt

I finished up a sweet little baby quilt last week and today I get to share it as a part of my turn on the book tour for the new Precut Parade quilt book by Jessica Dayon.

Tessa baby quilt found on A Bright Corner quilt blog

The pattern is called Tessa - it's originally written as a large throw size quilt (63" x 77") but I chose to make mine baby sized, with just four star blocks and nine of the plus sign blocks.

This size would also work as a wall hanging. Wouldn't it be great in Christmas colors, or reds and blues for summertime?

U-Pick Quilt + A New Book By Pat Sloan

Hello everyone! And welcome to those new friends that may be stopping by for the first time!

Today I get to share a project I made from a new book by Pat Sloan called, Tantalizing Table Toppers

U Pick quilt made by Andy Knowlton of A Bright Corner

The pattern I used is called U-Pick and it makes a 45.5" x 45.5" table topper. However...that happens to be a great size for a baby quilt so mine will be used for that purpose!

Holiday Celebrations Book + Midnight Magic 2 Fabric

Hello everyone! Today I get to share a new project with you, as well as a brand new book from Pat Sloan and a soon-to-be-released fabric line by April Rosenthal. Lots of new things coming your way! And there's a few giveaways as well so be sure to read through to the end for all the details.

This has been kind of a strange month for me....Christmas projects and a Halloween project all in the same month and it's just barely June. What should I sew next? A Valentine's quilt? :)

(You're going to want to see the Christmas projects I've been cooking up...be sure you're signed up for my newsletter so you don't miss out. We also have two fun quilt alongs planned for later this year!)

Here's what I've been working on this week:

Coral and Gray Scrappy Quilt + Season to Taste Book

There's been some scrappy sewing around here lately.  After all of the reds and greens of the holiday season I sure was ready for a new color palette!

After auditioning some different color combos (green + yellow, navy + pink) I pulled these two stacks from my stash and they just clicked!

Rise and Shine quilt + Playful Precut Quilts book

Is it starting to feel a little more like fall yet where you live?  I've been noticing how much earlier the sun is setting lately, and today it's only supposed to be around 57 degrees.  That's a welcome change to the 100+ temps we've been having lately!

Today I get to share an all-solids quilt with you in some fall-ish colors.  It's been so fun to work with a little different color combination (for me.)  Usually I'm sewing with red, navy, aqua and / or green.  Some times you just have to switch things up, ya know?

Rise and Shine quilt in Kona cotton solids by Andy of A Bright Corner - pattern from the Playful Precut Quilts book by Amanda Niederhauser

For this quilt I used a pattern called Rise and Shine, from the new book, Playful Precut Quilts by Amanda Niederhauser (Jedi Craft Girl).

This is her first book and it's SO good!  It's filled with 15 different projects - all using precuts.  And one of the great things about the book is that all of the blocks are 12" so they can be mixed, matched, and inter-changed.  I love that!

For my version of the Rise and Shine pattern I used this bundle of Kona cotton solids (colors are from top down: Ice Peach, Foxglove, Plum, Everglade, Sage, Seafoam, Sienna, Salmon, Butterscotch, Mustard)

Kona cotton solids bundle found on A Bright Corner - love this fall inspired fabric bundle. You have to see what she made with these fabrics!

Here's Amanda's original Rise and Shine quilt, made with the bright and cheerful Welsummer fabrics by Cotton + Steel.

I think it's so fun to see how different a quilt looks when the fabrics are changed!  I did also choose to do a single border in the same gray I used for the sashing (Kona Shitake).

I backed the quilt in a snuggly gray minky, and used some simple wavy line quilting to keep the focus on the blocks.  And for the binding I used the Everglade Kona solid.

You can grab your copy of Playful Precut Quilts here on Amazon.

And you can read more about this fun book on Amanda's blog here.  She's hosting a blog tour over the next several weeks so be sure to stop by each quilter's site to see what they create!  (Scroll down to see the full schedule)

Lucky Star Quilt + Country Roads Fabrics

I've been slowly stitching away on this little project for about a month and it's been such a joy to work on.

Lucky Star baby quilt pattern by Andy of A Bright Corner - a fat quarter quilt pattern from her book, Fresh Fat Quarter Quilts

I have a niece expecting her first baby soon so I'll be wrapping this up with a couple of favorite story books and sending it her way.  After working on a few larger projects, it's been nice to be able to work on a smaller baby quilt for a change.

The pattern for this quilt is called Lucky Star and it's from my book, Fresh Fat Quarter Quilts.  Lucky Star uses just 6 fat quarters and it's pretty fast to make with just four large star blocks.

...and two blocks from the Shine Bright quilt pattern:

Don't forget to print this week's pattern sheet from the Fat Quarter Shop's blog here.

I love these star blocks.  I tried to use some of the bolder prints in these blocks so the white star points would stand out.  I love how scrappy they look!

Here's a photo of the full Shine Bright quilt from the book, Charming Baby Quilts.  Isn't it so fresh and lovely?  The Shine Bright quilt uses 3 charm packs and finishes at 56" x 56".

Charming Baby Quilts Sew Along Week 1

Charming Baby Sew Along with the Fat Quarter Shop - found on A Bright Corner blog

It's week ONE of the Charming Baby Sew Along*!  I'm sewing along with Melissa Corry and The Fat Quarter Shop to celebrate the launch of Melissa's new book, Charming Baby Quilts  - and you're invited to sew along with us!

Each week for six weeks we'll be making a block or two from each quilt pattern in the book:

*this post contains affiliate links

And then we'll be sewing them together into a sampler quilt:

For my quilt I'll be sewing with Gypsy Soul, a new line by Basic Grey (Moda Fabrics).

To get started you'll need the Charming Baby Quilts book, and this PDF printable from The Fat Quarter Shop that lists the fabric requirements.  You'll also need to download each week's pattern (week 1 is here).

All of the info for the sew along is on the Fat Quarter Shop's blog here.

Charming Baby Quilts book by Melissa Corry - found on A Bright Corner blog - Charming Baby sew along

This is the first week for the sew along and we'll be making a block from the 'A Star is Born' quilt, and the 'Color in the Lines' quilt.  Here are my blocks for this week:

Be sure to download this week's pattern sheet here! You'll still need the book for measurements and construction details, but each week's pattern sheet tells you how many of each size piece to cut.

Quilt blocks for the Charming Baby Sew Along with the Fat Quarter Shop - pattern from the Charming Baby Quilts book by Melissa Corry

I'm loving the soft spring-like colors in the Gypsy Soul line - so perfect for this time of year!

This is the block from the 'A Star is Born' quilt.  The fabric placement in this block is designed to be scrappy, but I decided to use just the coral prints for the block corners and the blues for the star points.  It adds a fun secondary design to the block!

And these are the blocks from the 'Color in the Lines' pattern.  Nice and quick and easy!
