Juice Pops Quilt in Kona Solids

Today I'm sharing a Juice Pops quilt that I made using two packs of 5" squares from the Kona solids Wildberry palette.

This quilt was one of those projects that just kept getting put on the back burner. I started it in February with every intention of finishing it in time to use this summer but then you know....other projects came along (hello distractions!) and I kept putting this one to the side.

I finally finished it up in July and was able to get some photos of it recently.

Kona Wildberry Palette

The Juice Pops pattern is a great pattern for using precut 5" squares (charm packs or charm squares). I found these packs of Kona solids in some yummy berry colors and knew right away that's what I wanted to use.

There are 12 different colors in each pack, with a nice variety of light, medium and dark colors.

I wish more fabric companies would bundle their solids in packs like this. I know there are a few out there but sometimes they're hard to find in shops. It's so handy to be able to get the convenience of precut fabric and a variety of solid colors all in one pack.

Juice Pops is Precut Friendly

The Juice Pops pattern was originally written just as a charm pack quilt pattern for a magazine. When I release patterns in my shop I like to add as many fabric options (and size options) as possible. So the pattern now has instructions for using:

  • charm packs (5" squares)
  • layer cakes (10" squares)
  • fat eighths
  • fat quarters
  • or yardage (1/4 yard cuts)

Charm packs are still my favorite - and the fastest - way to make a Juice Pops quilt!

Juice Pops Has Five Size Options

The Juice Pops quilt pattern has five total size options ranging from crib to queen. This sample in the photos is the throw size, measuring 65" x 73". Here are the measurements for each size included:

  • Crib 39" x 48"
  • Lap 56" x 65"
  • Throw 65" x 73"
  • Twin 73" x 90"
  • Queen 90" x 107"

I do find that lately I'm mostly making throw sized quilts. They're just so versatile! I can throw them over the arm of a sofa, fold them up on the end of a bed, or keep one in the car. They're good for snuggling during a movie, keeping warm while reading a book, and wrapping up during a chilly football game.

Longarm Quilting

For the quilting on this quilt I tried a new-to-me design called Gravity. I wanted something with a little whimsy and with no straight lines or hard angles. The slightly squished swirls in the Gravity panto were a good fit for this quilt top I think.

For the backing I used a Kona cotton solid in the color "Petal". It's one of the colors included in the Wildberry Palette. The binding is the color "Cerise" - (one of the darker colors in the palette) and it frames up the quilt really well.
