I took a little break from writing new quilt patterns in July and decided to give one of my older patterns an refresh.
Today I'm happy to be able to share the updated Whirled quilt pattern with you!
Whirled patterns now available in the A Bright Corner pattern shop.
Here's what's new in the Whirled pattern! First off, it got a new pattern cover including a new cover quilt and updated colors.
I also updated the instructions to include a few tip boxes and updated the diagrams to make block construction even easier.
The pattern also now includes more size options and fabric options!
Whirled is a fat quarter quilt pattern but I've added in the option to use yardage (1/3 yard cuts) as well.
Personally I still prefer using FQ because it gives you more variety of prints in the finished quilt. Plus I tend to mostly buy fat quarters at the quilt shop and that's what I usually have in my stash- fat quarters are so versatile!
These Whirled blocks are pretty quick to make and are such a great way to show off your favorite medium and larger scale fabrics.
Melody Fabrics
For this new quilt for the pattern cover I used prints from a fabric line called Melody. It was designed by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake Designs.
I love using medium and large florals in these blocks, but I think my favorite is the stripe print because it really shows off the spinning movement in the block.
I chose my favorite large floral print from the Melody line to use on the border. It ties the other prints together so beautifully.
If you're not a fan of borders you can easily leave off one or both borders to give the quilt a different look.
Five Pattern Sizes
Part of the update included giving the Whirled pattern additional size options. You can now make a Whirled quilt in the following sizes:
- Baby: 50" x 50"
- Lap: 50" x 64"
- Throw: 64" x 78"
- Twin: 78" x 92"
- Queen: 106" x 106"
The quilt in the photos is the throw size and I made it using 10 fat quarters plus yardage for the borders and background.
Quilting on the Whirled Quilt
I used one of my all-time favorite longarm designs to quilt up this Whirled quilt. The digital longarm panto is called Alfalfa and it's a sweet mix of swirls and leaves and pretty much looks good on every quilt.
For the backing I used Confetti Cottons solid in the color 'Songbird' and the binding is the same green print that I used on the inner border (Melody Grass Flutter Flora).
You can find Whirled quilt patterns in my shop. There are both PDF downloadable and paper versions available.
