Brick Lane Quilt Pattern

Today I get to share the newest quilt pattern in the A Bright Corner pattern shop. Introducing Brick Lane - a fresh take on the classic brick road quilt pattern.

Brick Lane is precut friendly, great for beginner quilters, and is a quick and easy quilt pattern. I stitched this sample up in Fieldrush fabrics.

Because of the size of the blocks, Brick Lane is perfect for using your favorite medium and large scale prints. You get to really show them off!

Beginner Friendly Pattern

Brick Lane is a great pattern for beginner quilters. There are step by step instructions and plenty of full-color diagrams. The cutting is straightforward, and there are no seams to match up (although I do recommend you find the mid point of each row and match those as you join the rows - but it's not difficult).

This pattern has a quick-piecing shortcut built into it. The sashing blocks are created using strip piecing techniques so they sew up fairly fast.

If you've never done any strip piecing it's a great technique to have in your toolbox. And it's easy!

Brick Lane is Precut Friendly

The Brick Lane pattern includes several fabric options. you can use:

  • Layer Cake squares (precut 10" squares)
  • Fat quarters
  • yardage (1/3 yard cuts)

Do you have a Layer Cake in your stash that you've been hoarding saving for just the right project? This might be it! The throw size Brick Lane uses 40 Layer Cake squares so you can really get the MOST out of that pack of 10" squares.

Fieldrush Fabrics

For this sample of Brick Lane I used 14 fat quarters from the Fieldrush fabric line. Designed by Basicgrey for Moda Fabrics, Fieldrush has a foundation of primary colors (red, yellow, blue) with some some pinks to lighten things up, and a few greens sprinkled in as well. It's a lovely fabric line!

For this throw sized quilt I only needed 14 FQ so I selected a variety of prints and colors from the bundle and ended up with this:

For the sashing blocks I used the white on white print from the Fieldrush line. It's a nice, creamy white - but Moda Grunge "Whisper" would work great too.

The contrast fabric (used in the sashing blocks) is Moda Grunge "Harbor". In some online shops it looks more gray, but it's actually a dusty blue that goes perfectly with the blues in this fabric line. You can see it in the photo above.

Brick Lane Quilt Sizes

Each time I write a pattern I aim to include as many sizes as I can possibly fit into the pattern booklet! For Brick Lane there are five quilt sizes included:

  • Crib 34 1/2" x 40 1/2"
  • Lap 47" x 58 1/2"
  • Throw 59 1/2" x 72"
  • Twin 72" x 90"
  • Queen 97" x 103 1/2"

This sample that I'm sharing in the photos today is the throw size Brick Lane.

Longarm Quilting

I quilted this on my Handi Quilter longarm (HQ Fusion) using a computerized design called Carefree. It's an edge-to-edge leaf motif and a new one for me! But I love it and know I'll be using it again soon.

The backing is made from two different Moda Bella solid colors. My local quilt shop didn't have enough of either one on hand for a whole backing so I used a bit of both!

The Moda Bella colors are "Lake" and "Powder Blue". The binding fabric is one of the navy blue prints from the Fieldrush fabric line.
