Midtown Quilt in Lovestruck Fabrics

Well, it's that time of year when all of the pink and red quilts are getting their well-deserved time in the spotlight. So I thought I'd share some details about this sweet, lap sized Midtown quilt made with Lovestruck fabrics.

I finished this up in 2024 and did a quick share on social media but never took the time to share it here.

The Midtown quilt pattern looks harder than it actually is...I promise!

The pieced rows are sewn together with a shortcut technique called strip piecing. It's a fantastic - and fast - way to use precut fabrics (such as Jelly Roll strips).

The Midtown pattern is also a really fun scrap buster pattern. The scrappy version of Midtown uses some basic foundation paper piecing. If you've never tried foundation piecing or if you consider yourself a beginner paper piecer then the Midtown pattern would be a great pattern for you to expand your skills!

Midtown Sizes

The Midtown quilt pattern includes four sizes for you to choose from:

  • Crib: 46" x 56"
  • Lap: 56" x 66"
  • Throw: 66" x 76"
  • Twin: 76" x 86"

This version I'm sharing today is the lap size Midtown quilt. It measures 56" x 66", which is the perfect size for kids to snuggle with on the sofa, or to use as you read in your favorite arm chair. If you'd like to see what the throw size Midtown looks like you can see it here.

Midtown Fabric Options

The Midtown pattern was originally written to be a scrap buster pattern -and it still is a great way to use up your scraps! However I have also added in the option to use a variety of precuts, as well as yardage.

For your Midtown quilt you can use:

  • Precut 2 1/2" strips (jelly roll strips)
  • Fat eighths
  • Fat quarters
  • 1/4 yard cuts
  • or scraps

Using Jelly Roll strips will give you the most variety of prints in your quilt, and it's also one of the fastest ways to make a Midtown quilt since most of the cutting is already done for you!

For this smaller sized Midtown (56" x 66") I used 12 fat eights, which gave me a nice variety of prints and colors.

In addition to the main fabrics, you'll also need an accent print - which is used in the corners of each row. This is a great opportunity to pick a print that will tie all of the other colors/prints together, or go bold and choose one that stands out a bit to give a pop of color and contrast.

Lovestruck Fabrics

Like I mentioned earlier, this quilt was made back in 2024 when the pattern was first released. I used fabrics from a line called Lovestruck, designed by Lella Boutique (Moda Fabrics) which was released in 2024. These fabrics are little hard to find now unfortunately. But if you love these colors you can head to your local quilt shop and ask one of the lovely employees to help you put together a FQ bundle with similar colors.

I chose a nice, crisp white background to help highlight these pretty fabrics. The background fabric is Moda Bella 98. For the binding I used one of the pink prints from the Lovestruck fabric line. The backing is a solid pink that goes well with the other fabrics.

This lap sized Midtown quilt was quilted up in a longarm design called Cartwheels.
