Quilt Festival

I missed out on the Spring Quilt Festival, and I'm late to this one, but I'm here and that's what counts, right? I had a very important birthday party to throw for my favorite 8-year old today.

Now that the celebrating is over, I have a few minutes to spend on a blog post before I fall in to bed, exhausted!

The quilt I chose for the festival is one of my favorites simply because it is the first quilt I had completed all by myself - from the fabric selection to the quilting & binding. I had done a couple of wall hangings before, but they weren't truly machine quilted. I made this quilt as part of a quilt-a-long hosted by Amanda Jean.

I learned a lot in the process. Here's just a few of the highlights:

  • I learned how to machine quilt. Thank you Paige for teaching me!
  • I learned that triangles are not scary. Thank you Amanda Jean.
  • I learned that Color Catchers work great for quilts with white sashing and red backing. Thank you to the Shout people for making a helpful product.
  • I learned that quilting fabric had changed since I had last been to my local quilt shop. WOW!
  • I learned that working with beautiful colors is therapeutic for me. Some people do yoga. Some people shop. Give me a stack of gorgeous FQ any day.

So back to the quilt... I like to keep it handy for naps, usually folded over the back of the sofa.

I love the stripey binding.

And when I need some extra-happy color in my really beige living room, I fold it so the backing is showing. Here's a link back to my original post.

Thank you to Amy (Park City Girl) for hosting the Quilt Festival! I love seeing everyone' s work. I could sit for hours and just look and look. Wanna see? Click here for the list of participating bloggers.

  3. Well, I can learn a lot from your post. Sounds like I'd better get some Color Catchers to keep on hand, for starters. I'm always happy to see quilters who have come back to the craft, and whose quilt gives them so much satisfaction. It is evident from your post that this is such a quilt. I love sampler quilts as I never get bored and each new block teaches me something new. Lovely quilt, and terrific post!

  5. This is a fun quilt -- I'm getting more and more attracted to quilts with bright contemporary colours and lots of white in them, just from cruising the Fall Quilt Festival. I'm at http://textisle.wordpress.com, come by and check out the little giveaway!
