Advent Calendar

Here’s one of the projects I’ve been working on for the Fabric Mill.  This cute advent calendar is made from a panel (Happy Christmas by Northcott fabrics) and is quick to make.  I love how easily it came together.  (I just wrote up a tutorial for it over on the Fabric Mill's blog.)

Cute Advent Calendar from a panel (Northcott fabrics)

The advent calendar that my family currently uses is this one:

Quilted advent calendar with felt ornaments

I made it two years ago- here I am working on it while it hangs on the design wall-

I first blogged about the calendar here.  My kids love it and it gives me warm and fuzzy feelings since it is similar to the one we had when I was a kid.

We have a slight problem however.  About 10 of our little felt ornaments are missing.  Gone.  We suspect it was our helpful youngest son who hid them somewhere – never to be found.  So currently we can count down to about December 15th and then I’ll have to pull out my felt scraps and glue gun and see what I can come up with!

Does your family have an advent calendar?  What do you put in the pockets?

  1. I have a little wall hanging half done of 4 snowmen looking through a window. It would make an adorable advent. Thanks for the inspiration ; )

  2. We have a wooden tree Advent calendar. In each little box is an ornament for the tree, and for day 24 there's a star for the top of the tree. My parents gave it to us years ago. I don't know what I'm going to do when my girls move out, they'll each want one for themselves! Maybe I should make them one of the Happy Christmas snowman panels, eh? :)

  9. Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear."
She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit
crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!

  12. Awesome advent calendars! (Yes, I'm just now getting around to reading Christmas blog posts!) I love the Christmas-tree idea - the button-hangers are just the thing. We have an advent calendar with little papers for the pockets - and each paper has a Christmas song and verse, so the kids take turns reading them, and we all sing. Might have to make one of these Christmas-tree ones, too. Really nice work - thanks for the inspiration!
