Holiday Celebrations Book + Midnight Magic 2 Fabric

Hello everyone! Today I get to share a new project with you, as well as a brand new book from Pat Sloan and a soon-to-be-released fabric line by April Rosenthal. Lots of new things coming your way! And there's a few giveaways as well so be sure to read through to the end for all the details. 

This has been kind of a strange month for me....Christmas projects and a Halloween project all in the same month and it's just barely June. What should I sew next? A Valentine's quilt? :)

Here's what I've been working on this week:

I made this 42" x 42" quilted wall hanging using a pattern called Liberty Hill, from the new book, Holiday Celebrations by Pat Sloan**. 

Scrappy Pumpkin table runner

Halloween is just a week away!  Every year I tell myself I’m going to pull out my Halloween décor the first week of October but then when the time comes, I don’t.  I just can’t bring myself to admit that it’s fall.  So here we are, on Oct 24th and not a bit of Halloween to be seen in my house!  Well, we do have two pumpkins on our front porch but that’s about it. 

So because of my Halloween décor procrastination, I decided to make a table runner that will work for both Halloween and Thanksgiving.  That way, I can use it now and leave it for another month.  Win/win.

This Scrappy Pumpkin table runner is a tutorial today over on the Therm O Web Blog (click on the photo to go to the tutorial).  It’s a great way to use up some of those scraps!  My orange scrap bin was a little lacking so I had to cut into my orange stash too.

To make the pumpkins there is a printable page as a part of the tutorial and you can just print that on to three sheets of HeatnBond EZ Print sheets straight from your computer’s printer.  Pretty nifty.  You CAN use regular HeatnBond Lite, but by using the EZ Print sheets you can skip the tracing step – my least favorite part of using fusible webbing. 

I made this to fit on my little blue bookcase in my dining room.  I have a hard time deciding just what to put there sometimes. 

I think my favorite part of the runner is the scrappy binding!

As I was first designing the table runner, I made one test block with a print as the background instead of the solid white.  I loved it so much I put it in a frame!  That background print is from the Flutter line of fabric designed by The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake.

Well, I guess I’d better go and get the rest of my Halloween decorations and just admit that it’s the end of October!

Ruffle Pillow for Halloween

I think I’ve said before how much I love fast projects.  I think I’ve said it a lot actually.  This was another quick one, and I enjoyed every step of it.  The fabrics for this pillow came from the leftovers of a Halloween quilt I did for my local quilt shop.  Most of the fabrics are from the “Too Cute to Spook” line designed by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake.  Both the pattern for the quilt and the pattern for the pillow came from this Adorn It Capri book:

I haven’t shown any photos of the quilt yet, but only because I completely forgot to take any before I dropped it off at The Fabric Mill.  The quilt is pretty cute, but I’m really loving this pillow.

It’s seriously a very fast little project and I love the look of the pseudo-ruffles.  I think my niece needs one of these pillows.  The pattern makes a 16” pillow and (lucky me) I just happened to have an extra and unused 16” pillow form in my closet.  I love when that happens. 

The pillow was a big hit around here.  My son has already made me pinky-promise that he can use the pillow once it comes home from being a display.  In the meantime, I think I’ll make one in blues and greens for my bed.

Today’s Project

The husband and kids are all at Karate for an hour so I’m working away on this cute ruffle pillow this afternoon.  The pattern for the pillow comes from this book:

The pillow will eventually be part of the Halloween display at The Fabric Mill.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get it all done before the boys get home.  The race is on! 

Gumballs for Halloween

Waaaay back in August I created this quilt to hang in The Fabric Mill as part of their Halloween display.

It’s a traditional “snowball” block, but once I got the quilt completed I decided that I’d call it “Gumballs” instead.  Back in August I couldn’t imagine having the words “snow” and “Halloween” in the same sentence.  Ha! The jokes on me, right?   What was I just saying about a part of me dying when the snow falls?  Yah, we got snow today. 
Anyway…



This quilt measures 55” x 65” and I had a lot more fun making it than I thought I would.  I’ve never been a big fan of Halloween fabrics.  It helps that the greens and purples have been added into the mix with the blacks and oranges.  I really love the finished quilt.  I think that maybe I don’t love any of the Halloween fabrics on their own, but when combined with others then I like them?  Maybe?  I dunno.






For now the quilt is still hanging at the shop, but it will be nice to have next year to add to my still-growing collection of Halloween decorations.  So far this year I have this wall hanging (I wrote the tutorial for it here):

Now I have to stop worrying about decorations and start working on costumes.  As of tonight we have one kid decided on being Hawkeye and one not-so-decided on being skeleton/Buzz Lightyear/Mickey Mouse/zombie/nothing at all.

Fabric Stack Friday: Halloween Sewing

I’m doing a bit of Halloween sewing this week. 

I was talking with a friend yesterday and we were both so glad that these pretty purples and greens have been added to the Halloween fabrics.  One can only do so much with just orange and black, you know?

One more note – This Halloween project involves some ric rac.  I don’t really ever sew with ric rac.  Apparently I don’t talk about ric rac either because when I mentioned it yesterday my family busted up laughing.  They thought that I had made up that name.
