Star Trails Quilt in Nantucket Summer Fabrics

I'm trying to get caught up on sharing more of my finished quilts, and I figured it's about time I shared a little more about the cover quilt for the Star Trails quilt pattern

I've shared a pink scrappy version here, and a red white & blue version here if you'd like to see them- but THIS is the one that completely stole my heart and gets to be the cover model for the pattern.

It's made with Nantucket Summer fabrics by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics. This fabric line is just beautiful! And very "me".

For this version of Star Trails I used fat quarters -- 10 fat quarters are needed for the pieced rows, and 5 FQ for the stars. So only 15 FQ total!

The pattern also has options for using jelly roll strips, or 1/4 yard cuts of fabric or even scraps. I love giving you as many options as possible!

Don't let all those little squares scare you off! They're made using quick strip piecing so those rows actually are pretty quick to make.

And if you've never tried strip piecing before I promise it's easy. In the pattern I include plenty of diagrams and instructions to help you along the way.

The Star Trails pattern is a little different from some of my other patterns - it's not a block-based quilt but instead it is constructed in rows.

First, you piece the long strips of squares (which like I said, sew up quickly thanks to the strip piecing shortcut).

Then you make the star blocks - only 8 for the lap size and 9 for the throw size.

Then you combine the stars and pieced square strips into rows...and then you join the rows and sashing together to finish the quilt top.

And here's a tip: When you first cut the background pieces, label each one with the length so you can find them easily when you need them later.

The pattern offers two size options: Lap (50" x 67") and Throw (60" x 75"). This one is the throw size.
