Dinner Party Quilt Pattern in Notting Hill Fabrics

This Dinner Party quilt pattern has been out for a short time now but I haven't yet shared the details!

Dinner Party is a pre-cut friendly pattern in four sizes, and makes a fun and modern quilt that's perfect for showing off your favorite fabrics.

Because of these nice large blocks, this is a perfect pattern to use with your favorite medium and large scale prints.

Love large florals? Or novelty prints? With Dinner Party you don't have to cut them down too small - use them and let them be the star of the show.

Or take Dinner party in a more modern direction with solids.

These gorgeous Notting Hill prints were my inspiration for this pattern. I wanted to be able to use a single set of 10" squares (Layer Cake or 10" Stacker) and enjoy the larger florals, plaids and polka dots.

Use Layer Cake squares, Fat Quarters, or Yardage

Dinner Party was originally designed for 10" squares, but you also have the option of using fat quarters, or yardage (1/3 yard cuts). I find it's helpful to have as many fabric options as possible for a pattern, because some fabrics just don't come in pre-cuts, or maybe you're pulling from your stash and all you have to work with is yardage. Options are always a great thing!

There are still some Notting Hill 10" stackers available in shops - find some here on Etsy

Four Size Options

The Dinner Party pattern includes instructions and diagrams for four sizes of quilts: crib, throw, twin, and queen.

This version is the twin size (72" x 85") and used 30 Layer Cake squares. I love being able to make a nice, large quilt from just a single Layer Cake pack, don't you?

The crib size uses just 12 Layer Cake squares, and the throw needs 20 squares-- so you can easily get a crib quilt, AND a throw quilt from one Layer Cake pack. Or three crib sized quilts!

The No Sashing Trick

It may look like there's a pieced sashing between the blocks and rows but I've designed the pattern in a way that it comes together quickly and needs zero sashing. I try to add shortcuts and easy piecing to my patterns as often as I can!

Play with Contrasting Fabrics

The look of the pattern can change depending on the accent fabric you choose to use for in between the blocks. Go with something bold, or choose something that's softer that will blend in more. It's fun to play with options!

For this Notting Hill version I used the blue gingham print from the fabric line. But here's a mock up of the same Notting Hill prints, with the blue gingham swapped out for the green and then red gingham prints. Which one do you like better?

Looks Great in Prints or Solids

Here's just a sneak peek at an all-solids version of Dinner Party. I'll share more about this particular quilt soon, but I wanted to let you see how great the pattern looks when done up in solids.

And this also gives you a look at the throw size Dinner Party (58" x 72") - a generous throw size with only 20 quilt blocks to piece!

The colors of Kona solids I used are: Foxglove, Plum, Eggplant, Mustard, Butterscotch, Celadon, Laurel, Basil, Fog, Teal, and Graphite.

Finishing Details

For the backing on my quilt, I went with a coordinating solid in light green. And for the binding I used the same blue gingham print that I chose for the contrasting print.

The longarm quilting is a computerized edge-to-edge design called Rolling Hills (by Julie Hirt, found on Etsy)
