Spot On Quilt in Bird Song Fabrics

Anyone else finding it hard to believe we're almost halfway through July already?

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on a quilt using some new fabrics from Pat Sloan...and I have some to giveaway at the end of this post so stick around!

Spot On quilt pattern by Andy Knowlton of A Bright Corner - uses layer cakes, FQ or yardage and includes four sizes

Bird Song is Pat Sloan's newest fabric line for Benartex fabrics, and right now she's hosting a fabric tour to help us get to know her new line better. For my project I chose to use some of the blue and green prints:

Bird Song fabrics found on A Bright Corner blog - you have to see what she made with these!

And instead of my usual crisp, bright, white background - I used a softer, cream colored background and I love how well it works with these prints.
I love all of the florals in this line!

The pattern I used is called Spot On - it includes instructions for using precut 10" squares, or fat quarters, or fat eighths, or yardage! (I used 1/4 yard cuts)

Spot On is a fun pattern - the finished quilt gives the illusion of circles and rings but it's all straight line piecing.

And even better....those little squares are all made using quick strip piecing techniques so the blocks sew up quickly!

You can see other versions of Spot On here, and I particularly love this one using Benartex Color Weave fabrics.

The Spot On pattern includes four sizes: crib, throw, twin, & queen

This is the throw size - and if you make this size using layer cake (10") squares you'll only need 15 of them. That means you can get TWO throw size quilts from ONE pack of 10" squares!

See the details of the fabric requirements and finished quilt sizes below:

You can find Bird Song fabrics here from the Fat Quarter Shop

Just for fun I mocked up the Spot On throw size quilt in the other prints from the Bird Song fabric line - The blues and greens are definitely more "me" but I really love this version as well!

It has a pretty, autumn vibe to it, don't you think?

  1. Soft hues of colors, love how you used cream as a background and not white. Really gives the quilt a softer look with that new fabric line

  3. Hello Andy! Your quilt is adorable. I shop at a quilt shop that does not sell fat quarters. Therefore, I buy half yards of all of the fabrics in a line and this means I can usually get two quilts out of it…yeah! My other favorite is a layer cake. I love them just as much and I love the versatility in using them. Have a wonderful day…the sun is shining and the birds are singing here…looks like a beautiful day ahead!

  186. I think my favorite precut is the Fat Quarter as well. I remember when I saw them first in the quilt shop and I thought, what a great idea! I love the layer cake just as much but really I find them all quite useful depending on what I’m making. Thank you for sharing your quilt made with Pat’s new fabric line. I love how cozy it looks in it’s simplicity. Looks like it would be so fun to make. kclayton77@me.com
