Clear Sky Quilt Scrappy Version

I've been able to get a few of my WIP quilts finished up lately and I'm looking forward to sharing them! This quilt is my most recent finish - I just finished binding it over the weekend. It is a scrappy version of my Clear Sky pattern-

I stitched this up during the recent Clear Sky Quilt Along that I hosted throughout August and September.

It was a lot of fun, and I have to say...I've learned that quilt alongs are a great way to make a quilt! Personally, as a participant, I like having the schedule to follow (and to keep me motivated) and it's so great to see all the different versions that people are making right along side of you. If you've never joined one, try it sometime!

I played around a little bit with the final layout of my quilt. Because my blocks are scrappy and not pre-planned at all, I had to move and swap a few blocks to make sure that my finished quilt top had a good distribution of color and prints throughout. It took some doing, but I finally got an arrangement that I liked.

And do you want to know something? As much as I love this red, white, and blue version of Clear Sky, I sure am wishing I would have made it from reds and greens so I could have a fun new Christmas quilt to use this winter. Ah well!

I'm also wishing I would have just gone all-out scrappy and made the background out of scrappy low-volume prints as well. Quilt regrets are real hahaha....

I even added a scrappy binding to my quilt. I keep a bin of 2.5" wide strips (of all colors and lengths) so if I ever want to make a scrappy binding I grab the bin and pick out the color I'm looking for.

If you're interested in making a scrappy Clear Sky quilt I have some good news for you- As I wrote the pattern, I included extra details into the block instructions to make it easier for you to make a scrappy version. At the beginning of each set of instructions, it lists the pieces you need for that block and how many of each block you should make.

So I just cut from my scraps as I went. Some blocks ended up scrappier than others and it was fun to dig through and find old favorite prints.
