Make Believe Quilt Pattern

Well this one has been a long time in coming! I have a new pattern to share with you today, but technically it's about six years old.

This is Make Believe - a precut friendly pattern in five sizes.

Six years ago I made a version of this quilt just for fun and shared it here on my blog. Since then I've had many, many requests for the pattern.

So I recently opened up my file of old notes from that first quilt, worked some magical quilt math (abracadabra!) and created the Make Believe pattern.

And it's worth the wait, I promise. In the pattern I included four fabric options and five sizes. Oh - and two block options!

Make Believe is Precut Friendly

I like to add in as many fabric options as I can into my patterns, and in this Make Believe pattern you can use:

  • Charm Squares (precut 5" squares)
  • Layer Cake squares (precut 10" squares)
  • Fat Quarters
  • or Yardage (1/3 yard cuts)

Five Size Options

And the pattern includes instructions and diagrams for five sizes of quilts:

  • Crib (46" x 56")
  • Lap (56" x 67")
  • Throw (67" x 77")
  • Twin (77" x 98")
  • Queen (109" x 109")
Having multiple size options adds great value - this will be one of those patterns that I can see myself making again and again. In fact, I have a fall-inspired version planned next.

This quilt is the throw size Make Believe and I used a pack of precut 10" squares of the Flower Garden fabric line (by Echo Park for Riley Blake Designs).

I love the pretty floral prints paired with the plaids. This is such a lovely fabric line - but there's not many precuts left out there so if you're wanting some I'd hurry!

Here's the original version of Make Believe that I stitched up six years ago. Notice anything different about the blocks?

The new version of the Make Believe pattern has little "holes" in the center of each block. But if you prefer the first version of the block with no holes, you're in luck!

The Make Believe pattern gives you the option to include the holes or to omit them.

Make Believe is one of those patterns that will look great in any fabric - modern, geometric, seasonal, feed sack prints, batiks..... I'll be sharing some mock ups of Make Believe here in a blog post in a week or so.

You can find both PDF and paper copies of the Make Believe pattern in my shop.

For the background fabric on this quilt I used Moda Bella 98, and the binding on the quilt is one of the blue prints from the Flower Garden fabric line. For the backing I found a coordinating solid pink fabric at my local quilt shop.

The quilting is a favorite edge-to-edge design called Knit 1 Purl 2.
