Hello Washi quilt + Bloomington Fabrics

You know.... there are times when I see a new fabric line and just fall in love with it.  And I really want to make something with it, but just don't know WHAT.  That's what happened when I spotted a Bloomington charm pack at my local quilt shop a couple of months ago.

I was there shopping for something else but on a whim I added the Bloomington charm pack in to my order that day.  I love charm packs because they let me sew with fabrics I love but it's not a big $$ commitment.  Know what I mean?

And if you're anything like me, you probably have a few of those "I love this so much!" charm pack purchases laying around, waiting to be used.

Here's where I can help you.  This Hello Washi quilt pattern makes a baby sized quilt using just one charm pack and a bit of a border fabric.

There's very little waste - you'll use 36 of the charm squares, but there's always a few super low volume prints in the bunch that just won't contrast enough against the background.  Just toss those into your scrap bin and save them for later.

I love the woven look to these blocks!  They give you the chance to play with different fabric combos within the fabric line.

And with only nine blocks, this baby size sews up quick.

The pattern also has instructions for three other sizes of quilts - throw, twin, and queen.  And you can use either charm squares, jelly roll strips, or yardage- so the pattern is super flexible.

I'm loving hand stitching lately so I decided to hand bind this quilt.  If you're a hand binder I highly recommend using thread gloss of some kind on your thread.  It helps it glide right through the fabric, and prevents tangling.

My favorite type of thread gloss is Unicorn Thread Gloss from Robot Mom Sews.  They come in the most lovely scents and the small containers are perfect for on-the-go sewing.

For the quilting I used a longarm design called Scribble Hearts from 627 Handworks (find it here on Etsy).  It's a super sweet design that works so well with these floral fabrics.
