Two Bee Blocks

block 2block 1

These are my two blocks for our IMAGINE at do. Good Stitches bee.  We each used this tutorial to create our blocks.

Jess asked for blocks that were both scrappy and vibrant.  I think the bottom block does a little better with the “vibrant” requirement, but I like the top one better in person.

April is my month to come up with the block idea, collect the blocks and complete the quilt.  I’ve been debating between a few ideas and I just still can’t make up my mind.  There are just too many creative ideas out there!

Very, Very Busy

I’m still here… just very busy.  Oh and I just had one. awful. week.  The flu came to visit and decided to stay for 5 or 6 days.

I'm currently working on several custom orders right now - which keeps me busy.  You’ll get to see them all once they’re done.  For now I’ll show you this one:

A customer wanted a quilt just like this one made by Amy (over at Diary of a Quilter).  Amy just happened to have enough of her squares left over!

The little 4.5” squares are all pieced together now, and I’m just waiting for the fabric for the borders to arrive in the mail.

Have I mentioned how much I love this color palette?  Well I do.

Custom Order

sarah jane custom order

I love this sweet fabric.  After my last project it’s fun to work with something so very girly!

This fabric will be used for a custom order quilt.  The customer saw a cute quilt made by Amy Smart using the family tree panel from Sarah Jane’s line Children at Play.  I’ll show it to you when it’s all done!

(I found all of the fabrics here.)

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

A New Pattern

A few weeks ago I wrote this blog post talking about what inspired a new quilt for my oldest son.  I thought you might like to see the finished quilt!  I also finally finished the pattern, and it’s listed in my etsy shop.
My son’s quilt is the twin size which finishes at about 72” x 96".

Waaaayyy back in January 2011 I decided I really wanted to find a reason to use some of this fabric:

So I opened up Illustrator and came up with this idea:

Dual Screen Alterate Colors

I didn’t end up making that quilt (can’t remember why)  but last month I was cleaning out some old files and photos and I found that image again.  I realized it would be perfect for my son’s new quilt.  This really is a quick pattern.  I think it took me maybe three days to make this quilt from the first cut to the last binding stitch.  (Translation:  2 hours each day during nap time, and 3 hours each night once the kiddos are in bed) Not bad eh?

I bound it in a slightly darker gray than what was used in the quilt.  I believe the binding is Kona cotton in Charcoal and the fabric in the quilt is the Kona Medium Gray.  I like how it frames the quilt just enough, but also blends in nicely with both the quilt front and back.

Here’s a view of the back (and my handsome helper).  Instructions for creating this pieced backing are included in the pattern – for all three sizes.

My son is quite happy with his new quilt.  Once we get his room all finished (we’re waiting for curtains and a cool artwork idea he had) I’ll get some photos up for you to see.

Oh and one really cool coincidence?  When I showed my son the quilt he pointed out that the blocks sort of resemble his DS.  Can you see it?  How ‘bout if I rotate the blocks?

It made him love the quilt even more.  I just pretended that I did that on purpose.

Wednesday’s Color Card

I’m hoping this bright, colorful quilt will help me endure just a bit longer until Spring arrives for good!

Whew!

Well THAT was a lot of work (and a whole lot of math!)  This Jack’s Blocks pattern is now available as a twin size quilt pattern AND a queen size quilt pattern.

If you previously purchased the twin pattern and would like the queen pattern, email me (or convo through etsy) and I can have it emailed to you!

With the editing of this pattern and the writing of another I’ve been spending more time at my computer than at my sewing machine.  I did step away from the keyboard for an hour to catch up on two bee blocks:

block 1
block 2

These are for the IMAGINE at do. Good Stitches group.  We followed this tutorial.   We were told to use any fabrics we wanted, and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished quilt with all of it’s scrappiness.

Wednesday’s Color Card

Zigzag quilt palette

This week I was inspired by a quilt that now belongs to my not-so-little nephew.  (I first blogged about it here.)

The colors are also very, very close to the colors used in this quilt:

This one happened to be made for a different nephew.  I just really love this color combo!

Happy Monday

Just stopping in to tell you that one of my all-time favorite quilts is being featured over at Modern Day Quilts.  Go and check it out!  By the way, this is one of the few blogs that I DO check on a daily basis.  Love Modern Day Quilts!

Also, today I’m hoping to find some time to photograph a few of these:

Happy Monday everyone!

Happy March

Wow- March is here already!

stack of greens

I have this little stack of greens that I’m thinking of cutting into.  I’ve had them for over a year now.  I’m thinking of using them for something similar to my Creamsicles quilt.

Also in the works – a queen size version of this pattern:

Also, this is quilted – as is my son’s new quilt.  Both are waiting for their bindings!
